the curse

I've always had an off/on fondness for Mother Nature and I have more reason now. I suppose it's partly my fault. I cursed an innocent family. For the past few weeks I've had to deal with my uninvited spring guests. They don't take up much room, eat all my food or expect me to entertain them, but just like last spring, they showed up again. To be clear, only two of them show up..until their babies are ready for their appearance. Blackbirds in my kitchen vent! For the first week or so, it's just mom and dad building their nest constantly, and before long, the chatter of babies. The babies are reasonably quiet when their alone, but when the folks open the vent flap to come back in, they get all excited at the prospect of bugs, worms, etc. Wouldn't you?  Kind of a cute noise I have to admit. For awhile that is. In the spirit of taking full advantage of my hospitality they seem to have no problem making a lovely mess of my back step, and I get an occasional nasty scent coming through the stove hood of things I won't speculate on, but with a diet of worms, bug and the like, you get the picture. As I said, they came last year, so why didn't I block the entrance you ask? Because I'm a sucker and don't have the heart to boot the happy family.I actually got pictures of little black heads with wide open beaks, that's how tickled I was. Last year, in an attempt to get them to clam up for a bit, I turned on the fan and heard dead silence for far too long and convinced myself I'd killed them. That's a kind of guilt I don't wish on anyone. I am the kid who cried for days when my hamster croaked and they too don't have a great lifespan. And besides as with most guests, they always leave...eventually. In this case, it's only when the tots are good and ready. Which brings me to 'the curse'. Being a Facebooker, my birds have been mentioned there too. I statused that I was 'wondering when the babies were gonna get 'the push'..noisy buggers.'  Low and behold, didn't I step outside yesterday only to discover one of the wee ones dead with his little head poking out of the flap. I gently nudged him back in the vent because I couldn't bare to look at him. At least I know he wasn't an only child as I can still hear his noisy siblings.Have I mentioned I frickin' hate Mother Nature?!

now I see True colors

It's sunday morning and I'm watching 'Private Sessions' on A&E, which is usually a band or musical artist doing a sitdown interview and singing some of their work. In the past I've seen Stevie Nicks, Heart and today is Cyndi Lauper. I'm a kid who grew up in the 80s and to be honest, I wasn't a huge Lauper fan. I think she was a little too out there for me, even then. Surprisingly, I now have a new found respect for her. This doesn't surprise me because in those formative years, I really had crap musical taste..I listened to the rest of the crap my friends listened to because it was the thing to do,lip-synched or not. I loved Prince (still do), but I now appreciate how crazy-talented he is and not just some skinny guy with an unhealthy attachment to purple and some cool songs. I think this new found respect for Cyndi comes from her honesty and ability to just say 'feck it', this is who I am. She says she failed at everything, including an attempt to be an iHop waitress. (sidebar) I sympathize there as I know I'd be a lousy waitress,  but not because I'd confuse fried chicken and chicken pot pie as she did repeatedly, but because I'm not a 'customer oriented' person. The girl is not especially bright, tactful, or cute, and even had rocks thrown at her at first, but she's found her thing and she strived with a great voice and determination to be successful at something .I always like a freak, but only if their true to themselves and not just following some mold.

to Oz in the hammock!

I'm lying here on the bed looking outside at the wind/rainstorm and feeling sorry for my lovely skyblue hammock which is currently being flipped over more times than a pornstar. Let me be clear...it's not tied to trees, but on a handy-dandy hammock stand, which, let's face it, it just asking for trouble. I think it would make for a funny video to put on some glittery red slippers, braid my hair in pigtails, grab the cat (sorry, I don't own a dog), lie on the hammock and see if I and my hammock make it to Oz in one piece. Sounds like an adventure, no? I always did want to meet a munchkin (not a politically correct little person) with a high-pitched voice and an assortment of lollipops at the ready.
Let the music begin....'ding-dong the witch is dead...'

the blog begins...enter jibberish here

Here's a go. I'm sure I'm not the first not to know what to write in a blog. Jibberish..jibberish and more of the same. This feels a little like Facebook and that Twit thing where u constantly just write what ever random thing ur doing or thing. 'Kris is remembering how much she loves rice pudding.' Rivetting, yes? Here's more of the same..'debating between lying in the hammock or doing something productive, such as eating..I mean filing. haha'. It humors me to think something might actually read such..again..jibberish, and be mildly interested.
You'd think being an undercover cop, I'd have much more to write about. Blood! Bad guys! DNA! Oh crap...there's OJ again!
Ok..I'm not a cop but that was my first crack at creativity.......stay tuned....if u can bare the suspense. I, however, may lose interest.
